The Pre-Congress ITA-CET Training Course will be organised on 18 and 19 May 2012, by the ITA-CET Foundation (Foundation for
Education and Training on Tunnelling and Underground Space Use) incorporated with the International Tunnelling and Underground
Space Association (ITA-AITES) and the Thailand Underground and Tunnelling Group (TUTG) of the Engineering Institute of Thailand.
Lectures on topics related to the theme of the training course “Urban Tunnelling” will be delivered by experts in the fields during the
two-day event. It is an excellent opportunity for young engineers to participate in this training course to learn both theory and practical
aspects of urban tunnelling and related topics lectured by prominent lecturers. Detailed information on the ITA-CET training course will
be posted in the conference website www.wtc2012.com.
Upon completion of the two-day course, participants will receive a certificate from the ITA-CET Foundation endorsed by ITA and TUTG
of the Engineering Institute of Thailand as part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme.
ITA Global Perspective Programme 2011-2013 - Urban Underground Space in a Changing World
ITA is committed to contributing to urban sustainable development and resilience to
climate change by showing how underground space can play a crucial role in these issues.
To further underline this, the ITA Global Perspective Open Sessions during the three World
Tunnelling and Underground Space Congresses in 2011, 2012 and 2013 will explore these
themes in depth through the following sub-themes:
• Delivering Better and Resilient Cities (WTC2011, Helsinki, Finland)
• Planning Better and Resilient Cities (WTC2012, Bangkok, Thailand)
• Deciding Better and Resilient Cities (WTC2013, Geneva, Switzerland)
The themes will be approached from different angles through active involvement of the ITA Global Partners - IFME (International
Association of Municipal Engineering), ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners) and ICLEI (Local Governments
for Sustainability). Through these three sessions ITA is actively involving world professionals in the debate which will lead to a
declaration on how the use of underground space will enable cities to develop in a sustainable manner and also how it will help them
cope with the impact of climate change.
Open Session in WTC2012 Bangkok "Planning Better and Resilient Cities"
The Open Session during WTC2012 will be the second session to be held as part of the ITA Global Perspective Programme.
The Bangkok Open Session will look at the need for planning the use of underground space, to make the use of the underground
space sustainable and to have space available for cities to become resilient to climate change. The Open Session will be held with
ISOCARP, one of three of the Global Partners involved with the programme.
Who should attend the Open Session in WTC2012?
The Open Session in WTC2012 is not only for those involved in tunnelling and underground space but also for those who work in
different disciplines to share a common interest in issues associated with urbanisation and city resilience. Decision makers, urban
planners, architects, engineers of different fields, academics and environmentalists are all invited to participate in the WTC2012 Open
Session “Planning Better and Resilient Cities” on Tuesday, 22 May 2012. Further details of Open Session will be announced on the
website www.wtc2012.com.
One-Day Registration for the Open Session on Tuesday, 22 May 2012
